Carol Singing 2014

The Paulinian Christmas carol singing for the seniors was held on Saturday, December 13th.

As in previous years, the Paulinian carol team visited three senior homes in the Vancouver China Town area, namely the Simon K.Y.Lee Care Home, the Villa Cathy Care Home, and the Grace Seniors Home.

This year, the carol team was proud to have their own uniform which is a red cotton long sleeved T-shirts with “Paulinian Vancouver” embroidered on the front. And there was record breaking in number of seniors who attended the Paulinian carol session.

Over 30 carol singers set off in a cool and sunny morning in a bus sponsored by the school bus company. It picked up and dropped off singers at three stops. While all enjoyed chatting with each other during the bus ride, it gave them the same sentiment when they were in tidy uniform, sitting in a school bus and going to school.

The carol team stayed at each senior home for around 45 minutes. They sang seven carols, one Cantonese pop song, one English oldie and one Mandarin song. Then they played games with the seniors and distributed Christmas gifts to all those present. In addition, the seniors received a homemade Christmas card with an instant photo of themselves on one side and a 2015 calendar on the other. The seniors appreciated everything we brought to them especially our care and company.

All the carol singers spent a rewarding and meaningful day as they brought happiness and joy to the residents of the senior homes as well as enjoyed a great time with fellow Paulinians.

One-Day trip August 2014

Our Annual One Day Trip was set on August 23rd 2014. This year, we went along the Sea to Sky Highway to discover our Beautiful British Columbia, visited Shannon Falls, Alice Lake, Whistler village and Brandywine Falls.

We have 50 participants in a 54 seater chartered bus. We started our journey at 8:30am with picked up points in Richmond, Vancouver and Burnaby. All participants were treated with Chinese buns and coffee for breakfast. The weather was very good and all of us sang our school hymn and songs on our way to the destinations.

We first went to Squamish and stopped by BC’s third largest waterfalls, the Shannon Falls, and then to the beautiful picturesque Alice Lake which is surrounded by forests of spruce and Western Red cedar. We continued our journey along Sea to Sky highway to have lunch at the Whistler village, our 2010 Winter Olympic Site. After lunch, we walked around the village to check out the new structures and shops that were built for the 2010 Olympic. Of course, journey didn’t stop here, on our way back to Vancouver; we visited the Brandywine Falls, a spectacular 70m waterfall, one of the waterfalls that have very nice trails and serene atmosphere surrounded by it.

We headed home around 5 pm. We trust everyone had a nice time, seeing the beautiful scenery and socializing with each other; and of course, a very good memory of our Trip.

BBQ June 2014

The Alumni Annual BBQ was held on a beautiful sunny Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Belcarra Regional Park. It has a beautiful Picnic Area; we rented a covered picnic area and a total of 35 members, friends and family joined our event on that day.

Our day started at 10:00 am. There were volunteers who arrived earlier setting up everything. We had a variety of meat, salad, fruits and desserts. Everyone had a good time, enjoying the food which was prepared by volunteers. As always, it was a good time to socialize and chat with each other. We had an exceptional reunion of some long lost neighbours and childhood friends which was most memorable.

Belcarra Regional Park has some good hiking trails. A number of people took advantage of the good weather and company and set out for a hike after lunch. The hike was about an hour long and we had some photos taken along the way. The short hike to the rock offers spectacular views of Deep Cove, Mount Seymour, and Burnaby Mountain across the waterways connecting Burrard Inlet with Indian Arm. The trail has very little elevation change and is perfect for everyone.

After the hike, we regrouped and took some group photos. We left the picnic ground in high spirit and reminded each other of our one day trip in August. We hope to see everyone again soon.

The venue was turned to be an aircraft number SP2014 and participants were “welcome on board” by Executive Committee of the Alumni who dressed up like aircraft captain, first officer and cabin serving crews. To dress for the event, some participants put on national costumes of Egypt, Vietnam, Portugal, India, Hawaii, etc. while majority wore clothing and/or accessories that they bought during their trips. This was definitely a highlight to the dinner.
